Appeasement's Payoff
France's clever strategy for fighting terror — shameless appeasement — does not seem to be paying the dividends they might have hoped. AP reports that Islamic militants recently planned to thank them for their endless pandering to Muslims and obstruction in the War on Terror by attacking the Eiffel Tower. Also targeted were the Russian embassy, a clothing store in Les Halles, Israeli interests, and police stations. Apparently chemical weapons were to be used.
The militants involved in the plot have links to a group of Islamic radicals in Spain, another country that has committed itself to a policy of appeasement with their positively French reaction to the March 2004 terrorist attack that killed 200 people.
Strangely, French authorities foiled the plan not by empathizing with the plight of Palestinians or by denouncing President Bush, but by arresting the terrorists.

Sacre bleu! Should I end my boycott of all things French, as a symbol of solidarity?
